The industrial synthesis apparently involves the Friedel-Crafts reaction between phosphorus trichloride and benzene.

Reaction of Ph3P with Se

Ph3P reacts with selenium, even rapidly (i.e. elemental selenium in a solution of Ph3P in toluene at 80°C).

European name

Is it true that PPh3 is known as triphenylphosphAne in Europe? I'm a UK based chemist and have never seen it written this way, rather always triphenylphosphIne. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 40.0.96.1 (talk) 12:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "official" name in the European Union is "triphenylphosphine", as can be checked through ESIS. Only IUPAC fanatics call it triphenylphosphane. Physchim62 (talk) 12:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unhelpful alternative spelling suggestions

I just entered "Tri-Phenyl Phosphine" in the main search box.

Wikipedia responds: - The page "Tri-Phenyl Phosphine" does not exist. - Did you mean: Triphenyl- Phosphine

This time (because there was no suggestion) I looked further down the page, and the top search results is: "Triphenylphosphine". This link worked fine, and fetched me this article.

However someone should fix whatever causes Wikipedia to suggest alternatives that lead nowhere, or lead to other non-working alternatives only. Category: Tertiary phosphines?

Currently, the article puts triphenylphosphine in the category "Tertiary phosphil;lnes" which doesn't exist. I think that should read Tertiary phosphines (which does exist) but I will let someone else do the edit.
