Industrial synthesis.

The industrial synthesis apparently involves the Friedel-Crafts reaction between phosphorus trichloride and benzene.

Apparently? --Davidknippers 22:32, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

YES! Every reactive chloride can undergo this reaction. Where I would be carefull to call it Friedel-Crafts reaction.--Stone 22:38, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reaction of Ph3P with Se

Ph3P reacts with selenium, even rapidly (i.e. elemental selenium in a solution of Ph3P in toluene at 80°C).

European name

Is it true that PPh3 is known as triphenylphosphAne in Europe? I'm a UK based chemist and have never seen it written this way, rather always triphenylphosphIne. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 40.0.96.1 (talk) 12:02, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

well it says on the wiki that its IUPAC name is triphenylphosphane, so i guess both ways are legit.203.21.40.253 (talk) 08:49, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Web of Science search:
"triphenylphosphane": 369 results
"triphenylphosphine": 11000 results
I would have thought Europe accounts for more than (369/11000 = 3%) of the world's chemistry publications!

The "official" name in the European Union is "triphenylphosphine", as can be checked through ESIS. Only IUPAC fanatics call it triphenylphosphane. Physchim62 (talk) 12:51, 18 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram

Isn't there a better picture than that Chemdraw one? Where is that lone pair supposed to be? Chris (talk) 09:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've made two new ones:
The second one is in the style of User:Smokefoot, although he will be able to make a better version if we want an image of that style for the article.

Shouldn't you be revising? Chris (talk) 15:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought you might say that. This was my break.
Exams aren't everything :)

Unhelpful alternative spelling suggestions

I just entered "Tri-Phenyl Phosphine" in the main search box.

Wikipedia responds: - The page "Tri-Phenyl Phosphine" does not exist. - Did you mean: Triphenyl- Phosphine

<So, I click the suggested link>

Wikipedia responds: - The page "Triphenyl- Phosphine" does not exist. - Did you mean: Triphenylphosphine-

<Again I click the suggested link>

Wikipedia responds: - The page "Triphenylphosphine-" does not exist. <No more suggestions>

This time (because there was no suggestion) I looked further down the page, and the top search results is: "Triphenylphosphine". This link worked fine, and fetched me this article.

However someone should fix whatever causes Wikipedia to suggest alternatives that lead nowhere, or lead to other non-working alternatives only. Tungstic (talk) 04:15, 22 October 2012 (UTC) We are pretty good at creating "redirects" for reasonable mispellings, which yours are not. But please keep testing because the alternative spellings (and spacings) are important glitches.--Smokefoot (talk) 12:44, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Category: Tertiary phosphines?

Currently, the article puts triphenylphosphine in the category "Tertiary phosphil;lnes" which doesn't exist. I think that should read Tertiary phosphines (which does exist) but I will let someone else do the edit. Among us editors, I think someone whose knowledge of chemistry exceeds mine will see this and fix it. Oaklandguy (talk) 05:17, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
